June 5 is the International Day for Environment! And coincidentally, the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world between today and tomorrow. Should the world not end, we will live to see Sunday.

Before you go about planning your celebratory parties on Saturday on surviving yet another apocalypse, think again! This could just be the last call for serious action towards saving the planet.
Despite several international conversations around climate change and the need to conserve, there is still a widespread apathy towards being more responsible in our approach to the Earth and its resources.

World Environment Day has been celebrated on June 5 since 1972. It is generally marked by the planting of a sapling or making a form of commitment towards protecting and conserving the Earth.
Make the day count. Start a water-harvesting plant, set out a water bowl for the birds, plant a sapling and care for it through the year or get more ambitious. Organise a cleaning drive or figure out ways to reduce plastic at home.

It is a good time to also consider environment-friendly practices like cycling instead of taking the car.
