Samsung improves Galaxy M40 facial recognition
Samsung has issued a firmware update for the Galaxy M40 with improvements to the camera and the facial recognition.
The update also brings the June 1 security patch and the usual stability improvements and bug fixes.
If you own a Samsung Galaxy M40 you can go to the phone's Software Update menu and see if the M405FDDU1ASG2 firmware is available. It measures 378.40MB. And if you haven't received it yet be patient, it's called a roll-out for a reason.
Xiaomi Mi A3 and A3 Lite may get upgraded chipsets - Snapdragon 730 and 675
Xiaomi’s upcoming Android One phones will be based on its new CC9 series with some modifications. The Xiaomi Mi A3 and Mi A3 Lite are reportedly getting upgraded chipsets compared to their MIUI-running relatives.
The Mi A3 is set to get the snapdragon. Compared to the S710 inside the CC9, this chip uses newer big cores (Cortex-A76 based Kryo 470, up from A75-based Kryo 360). Also, the new Adreno 618 promises a 25% boost over the old one.
The chipset is built on Samsung’s 8nm LPP process, which improves power efficiency (the S710 is a 10nm chip).
Snapdragon 730 and 675 performance on AnTuTu
The Mi A3 Lite is getting the Snapdragon 675, up from S665 on the CC9e. This is an even bigger upgrade, going from A73-based Kryo 260 cores to A76-derived Kryo 460 cores. It’s still an 11nm part, but AnTuTu shows notable performance
CPU (big) | CPU (small) | GPU | Process | |
Snapdragon 730 - Mi A3? | 2x Kryo 470 (A76) @ 2.2GHz | 6x Kryo (A55) | Adreno 618 @ 700MHz | 8nm LPP |
Snapdragon 710 - CC9 | 2x Kryo 360 (A75) @ 2.2GHz | 6x Kryo (A55) | Adreno 616 | 10nm LPP |
Snapdragon 675 - Mi A3 Lite? | 2x Kryo 460 (A76) @ 2.0GHz | 6x Kryo (A55) | Adreno 612 | 11nm LPP |
Snapdragon 665 - CC9e | 4x Kryo 250 (A73) @ 2.0GHz | 4x Kryo (A53) | Adreno 610 | 11nm LPP |
The Lite model may get another upgrade – changing the screen panel from 720p+ to 1080p+. The Mi A2 litehas a 1080p screen, so a successor with 720p resolution would have been hard to explain (it’s easier for the CC9e as it’s part of a new series). This hasn’t been confirmed yet, however.
Both Xiaomi Mi A3 phones will be keeping the triple camers with 48MP main sensor of the CC9 phones.

Poco F1 review
Xiaomi is known for its value-for-money smartphones and the first smartphone from the company's sub-brand Poco, the Poco F1 (Review), took that mantra one step further by providing flagship-grade specifications in a price of a mid-range phone. The Poco F1 is powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC, which was Qualcomm's flagship chip for 2018, offering an unmatched performance in this price bracket, making it a shoo-in for this list of best phones under Rs. 20,000.
In our review, we found the phone to be snappy, and it never showed any signs of a lag or stutter. As Xiaomi has included a special version of MIUI with dialled animations in the phone, the phone feels very fast. The Poco F1 also provides good battery life and will be able to even last two days for medium users.
In our HD video loop test, the Poco F1 went on for 17 hours and 5 minutes. The imaging experience is also decent with photos taken in daylight having good detail, however the phone struggles with low-light. It is able to keep the noise under control but the edges in the photos taken in poor lighting aren't well defined. Xiaomi's love for including advertisements in every phone is an issue on the Poco F1 as well.
Xiaomi offers three regular variants and two special editions of the phone in the country – 6GB of RAM + 64GB onboard storage, 6GB of RAM + 128GB onboard storage, 8GB of RAM + 256GB onboard storage, 128GB Armoured edition, and 256GB Armoured edition. Only the 6GB variant of the phone, however, is part of this list of best phones under Rs. 20,000.
