Saudi Aramco cuts July crude supplies to at least 4 buyers in Asia: Sources

  • The World's largest oil exporter Saudi Aramco has reduced the volume of July-loading crude that it will supply to at least four buyers in Asia, five sources said on Monday.
  • The cuts were mainly for medium and heavy grades, the sources with knowledge of the matter said.
  • Three of the sources said that their July cuts was smaller than what they had received in June.

Gold, silver drops as traders book profits

Gold and silver prices saw profit booking in early hours of trade on Monday even as Covid-19 cases in India mounted and a second wave of cases across the world worried the governments. Gold futures were down 0.36 per cent or Rs 170 at Rs 47,164 per 10 grams. Silver futures shed 0.88 per cent or Rs 366 to Rs 47,324 per kg.

China begins mass testing in Beijing as 67 new cases appear

  • China has begun the mass testing of hundreds of people who had visited a Beijing wholesale market which sparked a fresh bout of coronavirus cases even as the country reported 67 new COVID-19 infections including 42 in the capital.
  • In a bid to stem the spread of the contagion, the authorities in Beijing have conducted the nucleic acid test on 29,386 people who had visited the Xinfadi wholesale market since May 30, Gao Xiaojun, spokesman for the Beijing Health Commission, said on Monday.

Coronavirus Cases In India In 24 Hours Cross 11,000-Mark


New Delhi: 

India has recorded the highest single-day jump so far of 11,458 fresh cases, pushing the total number of cases to 3,08,993, the latest data from the Union Health Ministry shows. India has the fourth-highest number of coronavirus cases among 10 nations worst-hit by coronavirus. The death count rose to 8,884 with a single-day spike of 386 fatalities. Maharashtra, the worst coronavirus-hit state in the country, has crossed the one lakh-mark after it reported 3,493 cases on Friday. Delhi's tally of coronavirus infections crossed the 36,000-mark as the number of deaths due to the disease climbed to 1,214, authorities said.

Here are the top 10 updates on coronavirus:
  1. Maharashtra has the highest cases in India with 1,01,141, followed by Tamil Nadu with 40,698 and Delhi with 36,824. The state capital, Mumbai, the biggest contributor in the country's coronavirus tally, reported 1,366 new cases and 90 fresh deaths.
  2. Tamil Nadu's tally has crossed 40,000 with 1,982 people testing  positive over the last 24 hours. Chennai continues to be the COVID-19 epicentre in the state with 71 per cent of the cases in Tamil Nadu being reported from the city. Six clusters in Chennai continue to be a challenge. On Friday, authorities filed a case against 40 people for violating quarantine rules by stepping out of their homes.
  3. India's recovery rate - the number of patients who have successfully fought the viral illness - stood at 49.94 per cent this morning. 1,54,330 people have recovered, the Health Ministry has said.
  4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair an interaction with Chief Ministers of various states next week to discuss the coronavirus situation in India which has seen an alarming slide in recent days amid relaxations being rolled out following the two-month nationwide lockdown. The online meeting will be held on June 16 and 17.
  5. In New Delhi, the situation is particularly dire with the Aam Aadmi Party government estimating that there will be 5.5 lakh cases by July 31. Delhi on Friday recorded its highest single-day spike with 2,137 new cases. This is the first time that new cases in the capital crossed the 2,000-mark in 24 hours.  The spike came on a day when Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain declared that the city will not be going into another lockdown. 
  6. In New Delhi, the situation is particularly dire with the Aam Aadmi Party government estimating that there will be 5.5 lakh cases by July 31.
  7. Coronavirus cases continue to rise across the country, days after the centre announced a new period of the lockdown under its "Unlock1" plan, which has eased restrictions in phases by allowing flights to resume, shops to reopen and offices to function, among other measures, with following strict safety rules and social distancing practices.
  8. The Supreme Court on Friday expressed concern over reports of doctors not being paid salaries and said the country "cannot have dissatisfied soldiers in this war that is being made against coronavirus." The court said the government needed to do more to address concerns of medical professionals. The Supreme Court was hearing a petition that called for doctors and others in the frontlines of the virus battle to be accommodated in hotels and guest houses for quarantine after seven to 14 days of duty.
  9. The United States has recorded another 839 coronavirus-related fatalities in the last 24 hours, bringing the country's death count to 114,613, according to a tally Friday by Johns Hopkins University.
  10. The coronavirus pandemic has killed 4,25,000 people globally since it emerged in China late last year, according to an AFP tally.
The economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic could plunge an extra 395 million people into extreme poverty and swell the total number of those living on less than Rs 130 a day worldwide to more than one billion, researchers said in a report on Friday, Reuters reported.
