1. Union Minister for Rural Development inaugurates SARAS IITF 2019

  • The Union Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Agriculture inaugurated the SARAS India International Trade Fair(IITF) Mela 2019 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
  • SARAS IITF Mela empowering rural women through Self-Help Groups is one of the top priorities of the government.
  • More than seven crore women have joined Self-Help Groups so far and the Ministry is making all efforts to take this number to 10 crores.

  • The biomedical equipment management was the need of the hour to improve the patient care facilities in the health care institutions.

5. Darjeeling's green and white teas get GI tag

  • The green tea and white tea of Darjeeling have been registered as a geographical indication (GI) products in the country.

8. Indian Army conducts 'Sindhu Sudarshan' exercise in Rajasthan

  • Around 40,000 jawans of the Indian Army are participating in the exercise.' Sindhu Sudarshan' exercise will continue till December 05.

  • Newly inducted armed helicopter Rudra, manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) equipped with electro-optical pods, helmet-mounted sights and night vision goggles was used in the exercise.

  • Cartosat-3 satellite is a third-generation agile advanced satellite having high-resolution imaging capability.

12. Pakistan becomes 1st country to introduce new vaccine to combat typhoid

  • Pakistan became the 1st country in the world to introduce a new Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) in an effort to combat a drug-resistant strain of the potentially fatal disease in the Sindh province.
  • The vaccine, approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2018, will initially be used during a two-week immunisation campaign starting from November 18 to November 30 in the urban areas of Sindh.
  • Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) is a one-dose vaccine, that will be injected intramuscularly.
  • The vaccine cost is low and it has high efficiency.

  • Sri Lanka's former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa has won the Presidential election. He is the brother of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
  • Gotabaya got 52.25 per cent of the total valid votes. According to the final vote count released by the country’s Election commission, he received around 6.9 million votes against his main rival, Sajith Premadasa who got around 5.56 million votes.

  • Agni-II, an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM), has already been inducted into the armed forces.
  • The entire trajectory of the trial was tracked by a battery of sophisticated radars, telemetry observation stations, electro-optic instruments and two naval ships located near the impact point in the down-range area of Bay of Bengal.
  • The test was carried out by the specially formed Strategic Forces Command (SFC) of the Army with logistic support from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
  • The two-stage ballistic missile can carry a payload of 1000 kg over a distance of 2000 km.

10. New rules framed under IBC for rescue of non-bank lenders

  • The Government of India has issued fresh rules under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) to govern the rescue of non-bank lenders.
  • The new rules are likely to help out distressed shadow banks and housing financiers, which have been battling a liquidity crunch for a year.
  • These entities will be covered by a special window under the bankruptcy code, which will be notified from time to time.
  • Reserve Bank of India has been given the authority to decide which companies will be taken up to a bankruptcy tribunal under these rules.
  • The bankruptcy tribunal will appoint an administrator who will be nominated by the regulator, will try to stitch together a turnaround plan.
  • In case a turnaround of the financial institution is not possible, the tribunal will gather the views of the regulator before deciding to liquidate it.

  • These entities will be covered by a special window under the bankruptcy code, which will be notified from time to time.
  • Reserve Bank of India has been given the authority to decide which companies will be taken up to a bankruptcy tribunal under these rules.
  • The bankruptcy tribunal will appoint an administrator who will be nominated by the regulator, will try to stitch together a turnaround plan.
  • In case a turnaround of the financial institution is not possible, the tribunal will gather the views of the regulator before deciding to liquidate it.
