1. India to extend over $60 mn line of credit to Comoros
  • Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has signed an MoU with the island nation Comoros. As per MoU, India will extend over $60 mn line of credit to Comoros for Energy and Maritime Defence Cooperation.
  • The Line of Credit consists of over USD 41.6 million for setting up of 18 MW Power Plant in Moroni and another USD 20 million for the procurement of High-Speed Interceptor Boats.
  • The Vice President was also conferred 'The Order of the Green Crescent', the highest Civilian Honour of Comoros, by Azali Assoumani, President of Comoros in Moroni.

4. Ashleigh Barty wins 'The Don' Award
  • Ashleigh Barty has been awarded Australian sport’s highest individual honour ‘The Don’ Award at the annual Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
  • With the award, she has joined legends like Cathy Freeman and Ian Thorpe in lifting the prestigious prize.
  • Barty was the first Australian to win the French Open in 46 years and is now aiming to become the first Australian woman to end the season with the No.1 ranking since Margaret Court in 1973.

5. 2nd edition of India-Bangladesh CORPAT begins
  • The 2nd edition of Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) of the navies of India and Bangladesh has begun in Northern Bay of Bengal.
  • Guided-missile destroyer INS Ranvijay and ingeniously built missile Corvette INS Kuthar are participating in the exercise along with BNS Ali Haider and BNS Shadinota from Bangladesh.

1. Typhoon Hagibis strikes northern Japan
  • Typhoon Hagibis strikes Tokyo, capital of Japan after fierce rain and wind paralysed the capital.
  • The cyclone Hagibis which caused floods, landslides and emergency disaster warnings, could be the strongest to hit Tokyo since 1958.
  • Authorities issued evacuation advisories and orders for more than 6 million people across the country as the storm unleashed the heaviest rain and winds in years. Train operators has suspended bullet train services extensively.
  • "Hagibis" means “speed” in the Philippine language Tagalog.

2. ADB & India signs $190 million loan for projects in Rajasthan

  • He finished the marathon with an unofficial time of 1 hr 59 min 40.2 sec and became the first ever to run a marathon in under 2 hours.
  • Eliud Kipchoge already holds the men's world record for the distance with a time of 2 hr 01 min 39 sec, which he set in the flat Berlin marathon on September 16, 2018.
6. M C Mary Kom wins bronze in World Women's Boxing Championships
  • M C Mary Kom has won the bronze medal in the 51kg event of World Women's Boxing Championships held in Ulan-Ude, Russia.
  • She lost in an intense semifinal bout to Turkey's Busenaz Cakiroglu. This bronze is her first world medal in the 51kg category.

  • 10th edition of the Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav-National Cultural Festival is being organized by the Union Ministry of Culture from 14th to 21st of October under the 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat' campaign in Madhya Pradesh.

3. The Nobel Prize in Economics 2019
  • The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the Nobel Prize in Economics 2019.
  • The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2019 was awarded jointly to Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer "for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty."
  • Indian-born Abhijit Banerjee is an American citizen while Esther Duflo is French-American.
  • Michael Kremer is also from the US. Abhijit Banerjee, 58, was born in India and has a PhD from Harvard University.
  • He is a Professor of Economics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US.
4. Chandi Prasad Bhatt to get Indira Gandhi award for national integration
  • The 31st Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration for the years 2017 and 2018 will be awarded to the pioneer of the Chipko Movement Chandi Prasad Bhatt for his services in promoting and preserving the national integration.
  • He is a Ramon Magsaysay award recipient for the year 1982. He was also awarded Padma Shri in 1986, the Padma Bhushan in 2005 and the Gandhi Peace prize in 2013.
  • The award consists of a citation and cash of Rs 10 lakh to be given to the awardee by Congress president Sonia Gandhi on October 31, the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

  • Alexei Leonov, the first human to walk in space passed away. He was the legendary Soviet cosmonaut who became the first human to walk in space 54 years ago.

16. PM Modi launches commemorative stamp to honour Marshal of IAF Arjan Singh
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a commemorative stamp in honour of Marshal of the Indian Air Force late Arjan Singh.
  • He served as the Chief of Air Staff from August 1964 to July 1969. Government of India designated him as the Marshal of the Air Force in January 2002. He remains the only officer of the IAF to be given a Five-Star rank.
  • Arjan Singh is an icon of Indian military history and the best remembered for providing excellent leadership to a young IAF during the 1965 war.
  • Even after retirement, he continued to serve in various positions including India's Ambassador to several countries.
