1. Amit Shah launches special winter-grade diesel for Ladakh

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the supply of special winter-grade diesel for high altitude Ladakh, which faces sub-zero temperatures during the winter months.
  • Motorists in high-altitude areas like Ladakh, Kargil, Kaza and Keylong face the problem of freezing of diesel in their vehicles when winter temperatures drop to as low as minus 30-degree celsius.

2. Home Ministry launches campaign to End Violence Against Women

  • The Home Ministry in collaboration with the UN Women flagged off an awareness campaign To End Violence Against Women from Sultanpur metro station in Delhi.

  • As part of the campaign, people would be made aware about India's single emergency helpline 112, an internationally recognised emergency number used in several countries. 3. Meghalaya-based insurgent group HNLC banned by government

  • Meghalaya-based insurgent group, Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has been banned by the central government for its increased activities of violence and other subversive acts.
  • The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said the HNLC along with all its factions, wings and frontal organisations has been openly declaring as its objective the secession of the state's areas, which are largely inhabited by Khasi and Jaintia tribals, from the Indian Union.
  • The group continues to intimidate and bully civilians to extort funds, maintains links with other insurgent groups of the Northeast to carry out acts of extortion and intimidation, and maintains camps in Bangladesh to give sanctuary and training to its cadre.
  • The central government is also of the opinion that HNLC's activities are detrimental to the sovereignty and integrity of India.

4. Assam Govt approves 1 Tola Gold to Brides free of cost under Arundhati scheme

  • Assam Govt approves Arundhati scheme to provide 1 Tola Gold to Brides free of cost.
  • In a cabinet meeting held in Guwahati. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal approved this scheme to give 1 tola Gold (11.66 grams ) to brides parents belonging to the economically weaker sections of the society.
  • With the aim to reduce child marriage under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act that a girl in India cant get married before the age of 18, and a boy cant get married before 21 years of age, this scheme can be availed by formal registration of the marriage under the Special Marriage (Assam) Rules, 1954 at the time of marriage.
  • This is only limited to the weaker section of the society whose annual income is below Rs 5 lakh irrespective of caste, creed, religion etc.

5. DSEJ launches special enrollment drive under 'Aao School Chalein'

5. Darjeeling's green and white teas get GI tag

12. Pakistan becomes 1st country to introduce new vaccine to combat typhoid

1. Gotabaya Rajapaksa wins Sri Lanka Presidential election

  • Sri Lanka's former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa has won the Presidential election. He is the brother of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
  • Gotabaya got 52.25 per cent of the total valid votes. According to the final vote count released by the country’s Election commission, he received around 6.9 million votes against his main rival, Sajith Premadasa who got around 5.56 million votes.

  • India will contribute USD 13.5 million for various operational activities of development across the UN agencies for the year 2020.

9. Moody lowers India's GDP growth forecast to 5.6 per cent for 2019

  • Moody's Investors Service has slashed India's economic growth forecast to 5.6% for the fiscal year 2019.
  • It stated that the government measures do not address the widespread weakness in consumption demand, as a reason for lowering the growth forecast.
  • It also stated that the economic activity in India will pick up in 2020 and 2021 to 6.6 % and 6.7 % respectively.

  • Bangladesh has topped the business bribery risk in South Asia according to the Trace Bribery Matrix.
  • Bangladesh has the highest business bribery risk among South Asian courtiers according to the annual ranking for 200 countries.
  • Bangladesh has been placed at 178th position among 200 countries in terms of business bribery risk. Overall, New Zealand, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland presented the lowest bribery risk.
  • TRACE is a US-based organisation which provides ranking to various countries in terms of the risk of bribery companies face in doing business in those countries.
  • The Trace Bribery Matrix evaluates the countries under 4 parameters i.e. business interaction with the government, anti-bribery deterrence, transparency and civil society oversight.

11. India-U.S. tri-services exercise Tiger Triumph begins

  • The India-U.S. tri-services amphibious exercise "Tiger Triumph" has begun in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
  • Tiger Triumph will go on for 9 days off the Visakhapatnam and Kakinada coasts.
  • The training events will enhance U.S.-India military-to-military relations and hone individual and small-unit skills in humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
  • This kind of training is expected to build the capacity of both the U.S. and Indian participants as well as improving their ability to operate together.

12. Lt. Cdr. Karabi Gogoi posted as Assistant Naval Attache in Moscow

  • Lt. Cdr. Karabi Gogoi has been posted as the Assistant Naval Attache at the Indian embassy in Moscow.
  • She will become the first woman officer from the Indian Navy to be posted as a Defence Attache at an Indian mission abroad.
  • Lt. Cdr. Gogoi was commissioned into the Navy in 2010 and is currently posted at Karwar.

13. India set to host World Kabaddi cup 2019 in Punjab

  • The 2019 World Kabaddi Cup will take place from December 1 to 9 and will be organised by the Punjab government in Punjab.

14. Renowned mathematician Vashishtha Narayan Singh passes away

  • Renowned mathematician Vashishtha Narayan Singh passed away. He was born in 1942 in Basantpur village of the Bhojpur district in Bihar, Narayan Singh was said to have challenged Einstein’s theory of relativity.
  • He completed his PhD on cycle vector space theory in 1969 and served as a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur(IITK) and the Indian Statistical Institute(ISI), Kolkata.
